After a short break from racing, most of the team piled back into the van on Thursday morning to make our way over to Kamloops for BC Championships. Unfortunately, Rémi couldn’t come on this trip due to a fall at Junior World Championships that caused a concussion. Meanwhile, David flew to Japan to enjoy some time racing and training with Chiaki. This trip saw skiers aged 7 through 19 come together for a super fun weekend of racing at the Overlander ski club. For this trip we rented several cabins 5 minutes away from the trails along with many other skiers from other clubs. It was a hub of racers!
After a short ski to check out the race courses on Thursday afternoon, the team was ready for the mass starts on Friday. Our skis were exceptional as per usual thanks to Bob, Fred, Edouard and Dave despite some warm conditions. The next day, the interval start also brought great skiing and results from the whole team. We returned to the cabins early in the afternoon and had some down time before getting ready for the annual BC Champs banquet. It was a super fun night with great food, plus Jasmine Drolet received the 3rd place aggregate award for her age! Finally, it was time for Sunday’s team relays. This is a fun event where teams of three each ski a leg of the race. It was a fantastic day, including some podium results. After the races, we quickly packed up the waxing equipment and hit the road for a safe trip home.
Thanks to Overlander for putting on such a great event. It was a blast! Also thanks to the parents who sent meals and came to the races to support their kids and the team. And as always, a huge thank you to our wax techs, coaches and course support people. Now it’s time to get ready for Nationals in Canmore!
