The final day of racing at the World Junior Trials brought the 15km Skate. For the open men, the day started early with chilly conditions. David Palmer lead the Black Jack squad with a sensational race to finish second. Julien Locke followed in 13th in the competitive field.
With a combination of 5th on Thursday and 2nd in the 15km, David punched his ticket to the World Junior Championships as the 3rd ranked overall distance racer. As one of five of Canada’s top Junior Men selected, he will leave on Saturday Jan 12th for 17 days in Europe. His trip will begin with training in Ramsau Austria before arriving at the WJC race site in Liberec, CZE. He will most likely compete in the 10km Skate, 20km Pursuit and the 4x5km Relay. Julien will head home to Rossland BC for a month of training before the team meets up again at the Eastern Canadian championships in Gatineau, QC.
Unfortunately, no photos of David were available from the race.
