Following the NorAm circuit across the country, Team Black Jack spent a week in the Gatineau area for the 2013 Eastern Canadian Championships. While Eric, Nicole and Julien flew in from Kelowna, David arrived back in Canada after 3 weeks spent in Europe for the World Junior Championships.
Opening the competitions at the Nakkertok Ski Club was a classic sprint held on a fast and flowy course. Julien lead the way crossing the line first in the Junior Men’s event, but was later relegated to 6th after being issued a “competition suspension” for an infraction of classic technique. David finished 20th with Nicole in 16th. As a Junior Boy, Eric competed in a 3km prologue, finishing 21st.
David lead the team in Day 2’s Individual Skate race, winning the Junior Men’s category. Julien was 13th, Nicole 12th, and Eric 21st.
The final day of competition was the long distance classic Mini Tour Pursuit. While skiing the second fastest time of the day in the Junior Men’s 30km, David moved up from third to take the top honour in the overall. Julien began the day in 13th and moved up to finish 7th overall. Nicole ended the weekend in 11th, with Eric 30th in the Junior Boys mass start.
Thanks to Dave, Ken and all of the others for making the weekend a success.
