This past weekend (26th and 27th) kids from Black Jack both young and old, participated in the Winter Carnival and the Kootenay Cup in Nelson. The team participated in the parade held on Friday night set with a bonfire, laser lights and moustaches! The first annual Winter Carnival sprints were held on Spokane Street near the arena. The teams of two raced either a 200 meter, 400 meter, 700 meter, or 1400 meter sprint course. Not too many people were there since it was only the first one, but it was a lot of fun for the racers. After the racing, wooden medals and cookies were handed out by George Grey outside the beer garden.
On Sunday the Kootenay cup held in Nelson required a bit more endurance. Distances ranged from 500 meters for the bunnies to 15 kilometers in the masters category. There were many good placing’s from the Black Jack team and most people were happy with their races. Afterwards, the middle aged and younger kids went for a soak in the Ainsworth Hot springs before going out for dinner in Nelson.
Overall it was a great weekend filled with fun for the whole team.
